Friend (2001)

Despite their different family backgrounds, four friends grow up together in the wearisome years of the 70s in Busan, Korea.  But as time goes by, each of them takes a different path in life. After enrolling in college, 'Sang-taek' and 'Joong-ho' return to visit 'Dong-su' (Jang Dong-gun) and 'Joon-suk' (Yoo Oh-sung), only to find one of them in jail and the other on drugs. Slowly life takes difficult turns where friends become enemies in the crime world

"Chingoo" aka 'Friend' broke all boxoffice records at the time of its release in 2001.  I did silver retention on the negative to get a mood of nostalgia.  It was a tricky process but when I showed the prducers the test footage, they loved it.  In retrospect, I don't think they realized how risky the whole process was.  I won Student Jury Award from Brothers Manaki International Film Festival.
